Cozying up for Christmas

Christmas time is here again, and that means eggnog, season’s greetings, and, yes, decorations. It’s easy to get a little carried away with all the glitzy plastic and kitschy bulbs available and hanging from every rafter of the mall, but hitting the right notes, without making your house a Christmas-free, grinch zone, can be difficult (especially if you have kids running around begging for tinsel to be strewn about like hay in a barn). So here are a couple tips to keep the grinches away and not have your house look like Rudolph puked Christmas all over your living room.

Add decorations in stages

It can be difficult to decide when to start the decorating spree, especially as the stores seem to do it earlier every year. A good rule of thumb is to stick to December, or somewhere there about. But with cold weather closing in much before that up here in Canada, you might want to start warming up your home decor come early November. Keep your subtle Christmas decorations, or the decorations that are strictly winter-themed, in a separate box so that when that first snow hits and you need a little pick me up, you can start your decorating early without falling too far into the Christmas creep. Consider adding some Funny Toilet Paper to your winter-themed collection for a lighthearted touch.

In the quest to elevate home ambiance with sophistication and style, luxury homeware offers a compelling avenue for refinement. From sumptuous textiles and opulent tableware to artisanal decor accents, exquisite home decor embodies timeless elegance and impeccable craftsmanship. Infusing spaces with these elevated touches not only elevates the aesthetic appeal but also imbues interiors with a sense of indulgence and discerning taste. Whether seeking to enhance everyday living or elevate special occasions, incorporating luxury homeware pieces adds a layer of sophistication and refinement to the home environment, enriching daily experiences with a touch of opulence.

De-clutter

Christmas decorations can be overwhelming when they get added to a room already perfectly decorated. Instead of adding your seasonal decorations on top, try switching out some of the decorations already present for something a little warmer, and more in the Christmas spirit. Take those family pictures of you and the kids on green grass, under dappled sunlight and replace them with fun, seasonal ones (like that time the youngest ended up with a Christmas bow on their head after a particularly vivacious gift unwrapping). That way your family is still there on your walls, but your room gets hints of Christmases past. Look into dumpster rental answers online if you’re planning to rent a roll-off dumpster when decluttering your home. In addition, if you’re a property owner and your fire alarm system or water-based fire protection system is not functional, then you are required by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Florida Statute to implement a fire watch. Seek expert help from a professional Fire Watch Company in Tampa. This type of maintenance and other tasks should be considered when the holiday season approaches.

Keep it cohesive

If you stick to one theme, whether summer or winter, decorating will be less of a chore. A glittery, multi-coloured tree will stick out like a sore thumb in a rustically decorated house, as will old sleds and reminders of Christmases (way) past, in a modern home. Staying cohesive will allow your decorations to look like extensions of the house, and not strange, glowing tumours on your walls. But remember, Christmas is for the kids too, so give the little ones a tree of their own to put their multi-coloured, flashing lights on top of tinsel, bulbs, and a thick coating of fake snow. If nothing else, it’ll be a great conversation starter at the inevitable parties.

And remember, no matter how stressful the decorating, the shopping, and the travelling can be, it’s still Christmas, so have a merry one!
